This breed is rare for a very good reason. Buyers beware, there are only a handful of breeders for a reason and you should be careful. If you are not put on a wait list for a puppy, you should be VERY concerned. It is not unusual to wait for a puppy. There are not many puppies available for a reason! If you are in a rush, then a good breeder will be very hesitant so please, take your time, plan and really search this out thoroughly. The BEST way to approach owning a SWD is to pick the breeder you want to work with. THEN work on finding the right puppy or dog for you and your family.

The purpose of our application is to find out about you and provide you with our procedure in purchasing a puppy from Copper Kennel. In order to properly place each puppy, we need to know about you, your family, your home life, your experience, your needs and expectations. After we receive your application, an interview will be scheduled if you are a match for one of our puppies. Please note, we do get a LOT of requests for puppies. We will get back to you as soon as we can but feel free to email us at copperkennel@gmail.com if you want to make sure we got your application.

After our interview, discuss the adoption with your family. Following your interview, puppies are reserved on a first come first serve basis. When a deposit is received, a puppy will be held for you. We will continue to interview other families until all dogs are under deposit. We will then work on a reserve list in case we are blessed with more puppies than expected.

There are many factors used to determine the right placement for each puppy. We may be keeping a puppy for showing and breeding or need a guardian home which will affect our decision. We also strongly consider your lifestyle, what activities you want to participate in, your home life etc in determining which temper and form will fit you both best. It is the disposition of each individual puppy and their needs that must be matched first. We will communicate with you regularly, explain our rationale and work with you, but ultimately, we make the final decision. Copper Kennel will consider your preference as far as sex and color of a puppy, but will NOT provide a guarantee for the above. Our first priority is placing the right puppy in the right home. No exceptions.

Each puppy is evaluated from birth; we will make final decisions as to which home is appropriate for each puppy at 8 weeks of age. You can expect white, black, brown, cream or a combination of white and a solid color.

We are determined that our puppies are well taken care of and we are kept informed of their progress routinely. We are not your typical breeder who will simply hand over a loved one and never have contact again. We firmly believe we are a family and support for you and your puppy is of the utmost importance. That said, we are also tracking health, temper and progress of our pups. This is crucial for our breeding program and for the health and well-being of the entire breed. Every buyer will be expected to agree to routine updates on their pup the first year then yearly updates thereafter as well as allowing us to register their puppies with the AKC. These puppies change often. We NEED to know how you both are doing in order to support you. We encourage contact at any time, but at a minimum, this is our expectation. We will always inform you of any changes in our contact information and will remain easily accessible day or night for you, your family and your puppy!
